While you're here

Birchill Farm is a place for every family member to enjoy, from the eldest to the youngest. We've packed our countryside paradise full of family fun; from indoor soft play for when it rains, to tractor rides and outdoor play areas for when the sun shines. Here's exactly what you can enjoy whilst you're with us.

Animal Feeding

Join our animal feeding sessions every morning at 9am. Don’t worry about having breakfast first as, if you’re lucky, our chickens & ducks will have laid a nice golden-yolked egg for you! Nothing tastes as good as a fresh egg straight from the nest box.

Help our farmers feed all the animals and fill up the water troughs. You’ll meet our cheeky little goats, three alpacas, two miniature Mediterranean donkeys, our mini pigs, and bunnies.

The Fairy Walk

Get dressed up as fairies (the fairy wings are very impressive) or gnomes, and follow the magical woodland fairy trail down to the bubbling stream. Mums and Dads can dress up too, so there’s no need to be left out!

Look out for ladybirds along the way. They’ll give you clues as to where the fairies and their houses are to be found. Stop half-way down the magical trail for tea in the little fairy house. They love having visitors!

Bubbling Stream
The Bubbling Stream

Feel free to have a paddle in our heavenly stream. It’s a really great place to spend time splashing around with your little ones. If you take the fishing nets with you, there’s a chance you might be able to catch something interesting.

Practice your engineering skills by building a dam across the stream, using the available rocks and pebbles. We can always tell when the dads have been involved by the complexity of the structure!

Outdoor Play Area
Outdoor Play Areas

Children can play safely in the fully enclosed outdoor area, while parents watch and relax at the picnic tables. There is a variety of equipment for toddlers and older children to enjoy, including swings, slides, climbing frames and areas for imaginative play.

If you’re musically inclined (or even if you’re not), have a go on our outdoor tubular bell chimes, which produce deep, vibrational tones that you can feel as well as hear. It’s popular with children of all ages.

Indoor Play Barn

Look out for the blue, two-storey building opposite the pond. Upstairs, we have a soft play area for babies, toddlers and children aged 0 to 3 years. Downstairs is set up for imaginative play with a shop to serve pizzas or ice-creams, dressing up costumes, and more.

There’s plenty of comfortable sofas for parents to sit and relax while the children play. The Indoor Play Barn also houses toilet & hand washing facilities which are accessible from either inside or outside.

Tractor Play Barn

Here you’ll find a good selection of ride-on tractors and cars, ideal for those odd rainy days. Have your friends over for tea in our playhouse or get messy (sorry mums & dads) at our sand and water play tables. There’s also a fort, arts and crafts, and more.

Slightly older children (5-8) can enjoy our play den. There’s table football, a pool table and toys. Or, if trains are your thing, you can build your own railway! There’s something to keep everyone happy.

Woodland Trails
Woodland Trails

Follow our many zig-zag paths through the woodlands. Be sure to pass our beehives and listen to the insects humming away before you wonder down towards the wildlife pond and look for colourful damsel flies, dragon flies, and butterflies.

If you are very lucky (and very quiet) you might even spot the family of red or muntjac deer that live nearby. They can often be seen meandering along these paths too.

'Tractor' Rides

Theres is no denying that this is a highlight most of the children at Birchill Farm look forward to. Every morning after animal feeding, little ones can enjoy a bumpy ride around the field in our Kubota (‘tractor’) towing the buggy.

Squeals of excitement (even rivalling that of the pigs Franklin and Jasper) can be heard across the field as we drive around and sound the horn every time we pass the group of parents.

Pizza Night

If the weather is good, join us as we fire up the pizza oven and open the Bir-Chill bar! Build your own pizza on an authentic sourdough base. Pass your pizza to Carl who has perfected the art of cooking the best pizzas in the world (that’s what he says, anyhow!).

This is always a fun evening and allows parents and children to get to know each other, share stories, recommend things to do, and places to visit.

Toasted Marshmallows

Grab a stick, load up your marshmallows and toast them to gooey perfection over the fire. They’re so yummy you’ll want seconds! Things to avoid: burning them, dropping them in the fire, setting fire to your stick, or burning your mouth!

P.S. Parents please note that Birchill Farm bear no responsibility for the sugar-high resulting from over consumption of marshmallows just before bedtime!
