Frequently Asked Questions

We've listed below some of the common questions we get asked by our guests; if there's a query that we've not covered, then please do get in touch. We're always here to make sure you have the perfect stay.

From 1st July to 30th September, changeover days for our cottages are:

  • Friday for Oak Apple, Bramble, Willow and Hazel Cottages
  • Saturday for Bryony Cottage, Elderberry Cottage and The Granary

Short breaks are available from 1st October until 30th June in all cottages (with the exception of school holiday weeks) and arrivals can be on any day of the week.

Your cottage will be available from 4.00pm onwards. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept requests for earlier arrivals as it takes several hours to thoroughly clean and prepare our cottages. We kindly ask that you do not arrive earlier than 4.00pm. Arrivals after 9.00pm are strictly by arrangement only.

Please leave your cottage by 9.30am on the day of your departure. It takes our housekeeping team several hours to thoroughly clean and prepare our cottages for the next guests, so prompt departures are very much appreciated. If you intend to join in with animal feeding before you depart, please make sure you are packed and ready to leave beforehand.

We provide bed linen, although please remember to bring your own cot bedding with you. One bath sheet and one hand towel are provided for each guest, together with two tea towels and a kitchen hand towel. Please bring your own beach towels.

All cottages have a stair gate (at the top and bottom of the stairs), some socket covers, and come supplied with toddler friendly plates, bowls, cups, beakers and cutlery.

You will also find a toy box with a small selection of toys and books to keep the little ones entertained. Please check suitability for the age of your child.

We also have a selection of baby & toddler equipment available for you to borrow free of charge (subject to availability). Please request at the time of booking.

  • Bed guard
  • Baby bath
  • Baby monitor
  • Bumbo baby sitter
  • Bouncing cradle
  • Travel cot with comfy mattress
  • Steam steriliser
  • Highchair
  • Step up stool
  • Sangenic nappy disposal bin
  • Changing mat

Dogs are only allowed at cottages (at an additional charge which will be identified at the time of booking) where this is specifically stated in the cottage description. Additional dog restrictions may be contained in our Terms & Conditions.

Assistance dogs are allowed in all cottages however, you must notify us of the intended presence of any assistance dogs, prior to making a booking.

You are welcome to join Farmer Carolyn and the team for ‘animal feeding’ sessions most days at 9am.  Animal feeding will not be available on Christmas Day or New Years Day. Animal feeding is limited during the winter period and may not be available due to poor weather conditions. Very occasionally ‘animal feeding’ may not be available because of illness or family commitments. Sessions last for about 45 minutes. All children must be supervised by an adult and it’s a good idea to pack your wellies as it can get quite muddy during wet weather!
Please visit our Out & About page for details of shopping facilities. You will also find plenty of information about local shops including opening times in the Birchill Farm digital guidebook.
There are several village pubs a few minutes drive from Birchill Farm. Please visit our Out & About page for details of pubs and restaurants in the area.

To arrange a delivery please sign in to your supermarket account in the normal way and but our postcode (EX38 8NB) where there is the option to deliver to a different address.

Select ‘Birchill Farm’ from the drop down menu.
You can specify your cottage in the delivery notes box.

If you are organising a delivery for your arrival day, it is important that you arrange for your delivery to arrive after 5pm when your cottage will be available to you and please choose a time slot for after you expect to have arrived.
If you are unexpectedly delayed then we will accept your delivery for you – assuming we’re onsite. As we cannot guarantee that we will be available to accept your delivery, we do strongly recommend that you avoid booking the 5-6pm slot, in case you are delayed.

We tend to accept substitutions, so if you would prefer us not to do this, please make sure you have indicated in your online order that you do not want substitutions, when arranging your delivery.

It would be helpful to us if you could email and let us know the time of your delivery and the supermarket you’re using.
