North Devon has always been a popular destination for cyclists. Whether you’re looking for a gentle family day out or something more challenging, there is lots to choose from. From canal side trails, to tracks along the coastline, you will be spoilt for choice! If you left your bike at home, we have a number of cycle hire shops nearby.

The Tarka Trail

30 minutes

One of the main attractions for cyclists is the wonderful Tarka Trail, which is a 180-mile figure of eight stretch of footpaths and cycle paths in North Devon. The route traverses unspoiled countryside, dramatic sea cliffs and beautiful beaches. Birchill Farm is situated less than a mile from one of the entrances to the Tarka Trail.

Torrington Cycle Hire

Torrington Cycle Hire sits beside a relatively flat, traffic-free cycle trail which follows the beautiful river Torridge. It’s very popular with families. You may even spot some wildlife on your day out, such as deer, otters and salmon.

With direct access to the Tarka Trail, this is an ideal spot to pick up some bikes and get going! Their wide selection includes many child-friendly bikes, buggies, tag-alongs and more. Morning and full day hires are available, and they even have a shop where you can fuel up before your family day out.

Barnstaple | 30 minutes

Situated in the heart of Barnstaple, this is an ideal spot to grab some bikes if you’re hitting the Tarka Trail or heading to Exmoor. They have a range of bikes including road, mountain, hybrid, commuter, folding, family and kids bikes. But before you head off, grab a bite to eat in their family-friendly cafe.
