Hartland Peninsula

Lydford Gorge

If you enjoy walking, the breath-taking Lydford Gorge, the deepest river gorge in the South West, with a spectacular 30m waterfall, is great fun. Stop off at the Waterfall entrance to borrow some binoculars (a deposit will be required which you’ll get back when you return them) and see how many different birds you can spot. You will need to hold onto any younger family members near the gorge and it’s not suitable for pushchairs.

Explore over 50 acres of woodland rich in wildlife, with a choice of trails to suit all ages and abilities. Follow the Blue Trail along the Becka Brook and through the ancient oak woodland. The Red Trail leads to our stunning waterfall and its dramatic 70ft drop, then follow the Purple Trail for views of the beautiful lower falls.

We also offer hands-on animal encounter shows – get up close to some of our friendly residents. Not forgetting the Animal Feeding Sessions throughout the day with our Meerkats and animals in the petting area. To help children really discover nature there are Explorer Backpacks to borrow, and a stamp trail with a prize for every child.
